Members' Tips: Giving & Receiving At
Xmas
Yes,
there's more the Christmas than presents but the issue can loom large.
How can you decide what to buy? And how can you prevent Christmas Day
becoming dominated by acquisitiveness?
Present
tense?
Don't buy things for the sake of buying them -
presents, food etc. Just get what you really like and don't waste your
money.

I have never found the all singing ,all dancing
toys give that much play value. The toy does everything leaves the child
nothing to imagine.

Try not to be swayed by the adverts, kids are
very easily swayed and tend to say that phrase 'I want that' with no idea
what they really want.

Timing
After dinner we can only open the presents when
the clearing and washing up is done. It ensures that everyone helps clear
up! Then we sit down with a drink and a suitable person (a small boy is
ideal) will hand out the presents one at a time.

A
different view
One of the nicest (yes I do mean that) things
about having an autistic child is the complete lack of acquisitiveness.
So we have no moans and groans before Christmas about all the things he
'wants'- because he couldn't care less!
