Feature: 24 Tips For Christmas With Kids

christmas presentsMore tips for a fantastic family Christmas!

13. Be careful at the office party
It's not big and it's not clever to circulate photocopies of your backside and you'll regret it the next day. Just as you will be full of remorse for having declared your undying love for Mr X or Ms Z or both! And while you not remember where you told your boss where to stick their rotten job, chances are that they might.

14. Avoiding the demon drink
By all means enjoy yourself but remember while it's OK to have a little more than usual at Christmas it's not such a good idea to overdo things. If you rarely get a night out since becoming a parent, don't expect your alcohol tolerance to be as high as it was pre-babies! Avoid topping up drinks - it's easy to lose count of how much you've had. Try and intersperse alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Eat a substantial meal before drinking and NEVER drive afterwards.

15. Remember those on their own at Christmas
It could be your father or mother or an aunt or uncle. Most families have at least one relative who will spend Christmas Day alone. Why not invite them over to your place for Christmas Dinner? Or if that's not possible, at least make a phone call.

16. Share the Christmas spirit
If after everything you still have spare time on your hands, why not help those less fortunate. Salvation Army hostels and homeless shelters will be grateful for any help you can provide. Whether it's helping out in person, making a donation or a gift of food, you can be sure your assistance won't be unwanted. Get your children involved too - it helps them appreciate there's more the Christmas than gifts and sweets.

17. Don't make it Christmas for crooks
Thieves and burglars don't have a holiday at Christmas. You don't have to be Einstein to know that homes full of presents, drink and food are a tempting target for villains. Even if you're just nipping next door for a Christmas drink, lock your door behind you. Make sure your presents can't be seen through the window. Check that locks are OK and alarms are working.

18. Prepare as much food as you can beforehand
Cooking on the day itself is time-consuming and the larger the family or number of guests the bigger the job is. Do a little each day in the week beforehand and lay the table on Christmas Eve.
