6 Of The Best: Camping Tips
One of the joys of camping comes with successfully prising yourself
and your family out of your hermetically-sealed house into the great
outdoors. But with the joys of living under canvas comes the
realisation that something slightly less formidable than bricks and
mortar separates you from your neighbours. We've come up with six top
tips on how to have a fabulous camping holiday whilst ensuring you
remain on talking terms with the pitch next door.
Sharing the shopping
If you're heading off into town to stock up on provisions, why not ask
your nearest neighbours whether there's anything they'd like you to
bring back for them. It's a simple gesture that's bound to be
appreciated – and most likely reciprocated later in the holiday.
Cover-up
Skimpy Speedos are all very well for the swimming pool (indeed some
sites insist on them) but they're not really the best cover-up when
you're roaming around the campsite. Keep your family jewels well
covered up and you'll keep everybody happy.
Noisy teenagers
If your teenagers are coming back from the campsite disco in the early
hours, it's a good idea to remind them that anyone they wake up may
take revenge by having a noisy breakfast nice and early the next
morning when they're trying to have a lie-in.
When in Rome…
Every nationality has its own particular traditions when camping. Did
you know that it's common for Spanish campers to decorate their tents
with plants and decorations from home. Now where did we put that Yucca
plant…?
Out and about
Many campsites ask you not to drive your car around the site during
siesta. This is a perfect excuse to get the family out of the car and
on to bikes or even walking! So don't forget to pack your trainers.
Try something new
Yes, you could sit by the pool all day (and there's nothing wrong with
that!) but how about trying your hand at something new? Perhaps white
water rafting would be fun? Or maybe, if that's too energetic, hot air
ballooning? Just think of your kids' faces when you say you might give
paragliding a go?
