Ask Our Members About... Holidays With Babies

Santa Claus hatStart 'em early? How soon should you take a baby abroad... and are there any extra health considerations? Our well-travelled members have some great tips and advice for new parents with itchy feet.

Go for it!
'Babies are actually a lot easier to cart about when they are small. Small babies don't care where they are as long as they are fed and clean. The best thing you can get is one of those carry slings- I found in invaluable. Most of the time people are afraid to take babies away for no better reason than other people's attitudes about it.'

Healthy holidays
'The main thing I would say you would have to be very careful with is to make sure your baby doesn't get dehydrated because of the heat. You will therefore need plenty of bottled water that is suitable for your baby to drink. '

'Remember to take all the important stuff e.g. medicines, feeding bottles and stuff that baby has become accustomed to. On the flight, let baby suck on a bottle of milk or breastfeed. This is to help with the 'cabin pressure'. Or you could use cotton wool to block his ears just until the flight is over.'

'You might want to think about the vaccinations that your baby needs when she/he is 2, 3 & 4 months. It will be good to speak to your midwife about this.'

Last but not least
'Just don't forget he/she needs a passport!'
