Nutella Withdraws TV Advert
27 February 2008

Hazelnut spread not 'balanced breakfast'

nutellaThe combined forces of parents and the Which? consumer group have forced the makers of Nutella to withdraw a television advert. More than 50 viewers complained, along with the consumer group after an advert showed a mother giving her children a breakfast of Nutella on toast. The advert suggested that the spread could be used as part of a balanced breakfast.

Which? health and food campaigner Miranda Watson said: 'We think it is highly irresponsible of Nutella to imply that their spread is healthier than it actually is, especially as the ad clearly encourages parents to give it to their children for breakfast.'

Ferrero's manufacturers said: ' At no stage did we set out to mislead consumers as to the nature of Nutella Hazelnut Spread and we have always been very clear about the ingredients and nutritional information in all of our communications.'
