Three-year-old's Great Escape
22 January 2008

Girl runs home from school to escape school dinners

girls walking down roadParents of a three-year-old girl who ran home from school at lunchtime, in protest at having pork chops, are demanding to know how the school failed to notice their daughter was missing.

Leonie Terry escaped through an unlocked gate from her school in Great Manchester and had walked a quarter of a mile before a passer-by saw her heading for a dual carriageway and rescued her.

Leonie's father said: 'Not only were the gates left open but the school didn't call the police or ourselves to let us know she was missing. It's only a small school, how long were they planning to wait before they called someone?"

The school have said that they're treating the incident very seriously.
