Depp's £1m Ormond Street Gift
15 January 2008

Actor thanks hospital which saved his daughter's life

johnny deppHollywood actor Johnny Depp made a secret visit to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London yesterday, to make a massive £1m donation in person. The actor wanted to thank the children's hospital for saving his daughter's life last year.

Depp's eight-year-old daughter Lily-Rose was treated at the hospital whilst the actor was filming in England last year. An infection had caused liver failure.

Yesterday's visit, according to the Daily Mail, is the latest in a series of moves by the actor to repay the debt he feels he owes to the staff of the hospital. Back in November he flew over from Los Angeles, dressed up as Capt Jack Sparrow and spent the day reading stories to the patients. And just last week he invited five of the hospital's doctors and nurses to the premiere party of his latest film Sweeney Todd.
