Teenager Jailed After 110mph Chase
14 May 2008

Pocket money dispute sparks massive car chase

motorway at nightA thirteen-year-old boy took a people carrier on a 30 mile, 110mph joy ride following an argument over pocket money. The teenager who lives in a care centre took the VW Touran after having an argument with care staff and ended up in a chase followed by five police cars and a helicopter.

When the chase ended up on the M180 with the youngster travelling at 110mph, police took the decision that it was too dangerous to pursue him closely and waited for disaster to strike. The teenager duly struck three parked cars, bringing the dangerous escapade to an end.

The teenage tearaway was this week sentenced to eight months in youth detention. Inspector Kevin Limbert from Humberside police told the BBC: ' It's not joyriding. There's no fun in it. There's no funny side of this. Several members of the public could have been seriously injured or worse due to the manner of this driving.'
