NSPCC sets up new body to protect children

camera operatorConcern over the involvement of babies and young children in reality television and parenting programmes is behind the NSPCC's decision to set up a body whose role is to protect children in such cases.

It's thought that one programme in particular, Channel 4's Bringing Up Baby, was responsible for galvanising the charity into action. ' We are increasingly worried that babies and young children are being put in unsuitable and potentially harmful experimental situations for entertainment purposes,' said Dame Mary Marsh, director and chief executive of the NSPCC.

The new body will advise programme-makers and aim to reassure the public that children and babies are being protected when they appear on television.
