Disney Restaurant Bans Kids
9 January 2008

Why the Florida resort 'is not amused'

no entry signQueen Victoria would have been delighted by news this week that a restaurant named after her has banned young children from dining there. The Victoria and Albert restaurant in Florida is a posh restaurant that in future will only be open to children over the age of 10. But what makes this an unusual decision is that the restaurant is in a Disney resort where children are normally welcomed with open arms.

‘We want to be the restaurant that's available for that adult experience," said Victoria & Albert's general manager, Israel Perez told a local newspaper. The new edict is one of a list of rules the restaurant has for diners – it also requires male diners to wear a jacket and tie and for women to wear either a dress or a trouser suit.

The decision to ban small children marks out the V&A restaurant as one of only a few top-end establishments in the whole of the US that have a similar policy in place. It joins an elite group of eateries such as Jean-Georges in New York which have closed their doors to children.
