Rising bills cost us £41 a day before we're out of bed

New research by the Citizen's Advice Bureau is suggesting that the average British family has spent £41 every day before they've even got out of bed. Annual bills now cost families around £14,800 - £6000 more than they did five years ago. Once you add in the average mortgage cost that means spending £41 a day, every day, before breakfast.

This rise in living costs is worrying consumer bodies who fear that families might fall behind in crucial mortgage payments and other debts. 'Our debt inquiry figures suggest that growing numbers of people are not only finding themselves over-committed on credit cards, loans and overdrafts, but are also struggling to meet day- to- day living expenses,' said Moira Haynes, of the Citizens Advice Bureau.

'Any increases in household bills are going to add to the pressure on people whose finances are already stretched to the limit.'
