The Little Parent Book
1 April 2008

Every UK parent to be issued with parenting manual
[This story is an April Fool]

mother reading manualFrom this summer, every parent leaving a maternity ward in the UK will be issued with a 'How To' manual for their newborn child. They'll be expected to fill in sections where appropriate and a health visitor will inspect the folders on a monthly basis. It's all part of Labour's plans to bring parenting under the control of central government.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education Pilar Lofo told Raisingkids.co.uk that printing is already underway for the parenting manuals. 'They're pretty small, so parents can take them with them wherever they go.'

It's understood that points will be awarded for how much of the manual is filled in. Parents who keep theirs up-to-date will be rewarded with spa visits and restaurant vouchers, while parents who fail to fill in their folders will be referred to the appropriate authorities.
