Baby Boom In Kids Own Websites
August 23 2007

Domain names come before baby names

pregnant woman and laptopSo you've got the booties, the pram and the moses basket – but did you remember to register the domain name? Apparently the latest hot trend in parenting is to give your baby his or her own website. Such is the desire to have personal domains, that some parents in America are choosing their child's name based on whether the domain name is available.

Father of five, Mark Pankow explained how he chose his newborn son Bennett's name; 'One of the criteria was, if we liked the name, the domain had to be available.' Another mother, Melissa Coleman, told USA Today that she set up hotmail accounts for her two children to allow their grandparents to send them e-cards and for her to email thank-you notes ostensibly from her children.
