Sushi Sucks, But Curry's Favourite
September 18 2007

Under 5s have an international taste in food

boy eating foreign foodThere may be articles and books aplenty dealing with fussy eaters, but a new survey has found that Britain's under-5s may be more adventurous with their food that we give them credit for. Over 1200 parents were interviewed by Nick Jr on their under 5s culinary preferences and it seems that grown-ups are passing on their love of foreign food to their children.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Chinese and Indian food was particular popular with children – nationally 45% of kids have tried Indian food – and 3% have even sampled sushi

The national preference for food splits along regional divides – a massive 70% of Scottish children had tried Chinese cuisine while 69% of Welsh kids were into Italian cooking.

There is one area where the traditional meat and two veg seems to be taking a stand – more than a third of Yorkshire parents said their children preferred traditional English fare.
