The Cure For Dyslexia?
November 13 2007

New project has 90% success rate

child reading a bookThe results of an educational charity hoping to help dyslexic children across the UK speak for themselves. Springboard for Children, as reported in today's Independent, succeeds in returning 9 out of 10 children with severe literacy problems to mainstream education.

Now the charity is hoping to replicate its work in London and Manchester in schools across the country. Government statistics suggest that there are upwards of 300,000 dyslexic children in state schools.

The charity works by identifying children with dyslexia in their first term at primary school; getting help early is critical in preventing children from falling too far behind their classmates. Volunteers help out by giving time for one-to-one reading sessions with the children.
