Ban Additives From Kids' Food May 9 2007 Scientist says additives can make kids aggressive
He's probably not telling us anything we didn't already know, but Professor Vyvyan Howard is on a mission to get food manufacturers to take additives out of all foods aimed at children. 'There are very tight restrictions banning these additives from foods designed for children under the age of one,' says the professor from Ulster University who works alongside the Food Standards Agency. 'But why stop there? Children's brains and nervous systems are developing beyond the age of one.' Professor Howard says he practices what he preaches; ' I personally do not feed these sorts of foods to my 15-month-old daughter.' Experts on the FSA's Committee on Toxicity(CoT) which is due to publish a report on the subject are expected to say that parents should avoid these additives which may cause children to be more aggressive and have poorer concentration skills. |
