Baby Yoga Banned By Church
September 4 2007

Mothers' group ousted for being 'unchristian'

yoga groupA children's yoga group which had hoped to use their local church hall to meet in, has been turned down for being 'unchristian'. Yoga teacher Louise Woodcock was given permission to use the hall at the Silver Street Baptist Church in Taunton after she told officials there it was for a children's activity group. But when church leaders found out it was yoga they reversed their decision and told her baby yoga wasn't suitable as it promoted other spiritualities.

'There's nothing religious about yoga for babies,' said Mrs Woodcock. 'We're talking about kids pretending to be animals and doing exercise routines to rhymes - there is nothing that could damage their minds," said 41-year-old Mrs Woodcock.'

'We're a Christian organisation and when we let rooms out to people we want them to understand that they must be fully in line with our Christian ethos,' Minister Revd Simon Farrar told the BBC.
