Parents adrift over what makes a healthy lunchbox

lunchboxA recent survey carried out here at Raisingkids.co.uk has found that 64% of parents are letting their children influence what goes into their lunchbox. We asked 1300 parents on behalf of the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) about their lunchbox choices and almost a quarter said they were confused over what makes up a healthy lunchbox.

More than a third said that they find leftovers in the lunchbox when their kids come home. The most popular items to discard are fresh fruit (28%) and sandwiches (26%).

Interestingly 73% of the parents surveyed said they'd welcome the introduction of a one-stop shop that would help them make healthy, informed choices about what to put into their lunchbox, which inspired the FDF to revamp its healthylunchbox.co.uk website to give parents tips.

Raisingkids' founder, Dr Pat Spungin, said: 'Parents are faced with huge amounts of information about food in schools, so it’s hardly surprising some of them are confused as to what they should be doing when it comes to the content of their child’s lunch box.'
