New research suggests evolutionary force behind baby gender

According to new research, there's an evolutionary reason for the fact that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had a girl. Researchers from the London School of Economics believe that beautiful people are 26% more likely to have daughters. The reason, says the report, is that women's reproductive success depends on youth and attractivess. As there's an evolutionary benefit to girls than boys from being attractive, a good looking couple is therefore more likely to have girls.

The research which was based on interviews with 20,000 people in America, also suggests that women in general are becoming more attractive. 'We have shown two things,” said Dr Satoshi Kanazawa, who led the research. “Beautiful parents have more daughters than ugly parents, because physical attractiveness is heritable and because daughters benefit from attractiveness more than sons.

'We have also shown that women on average are more attractive than men, because over evolutionary history the slight bias of beautiful parents to have more daughters has accumulated, so that girls have become more and more attractive than boys.'
