Angelina, Gwen et al give birth

people magazine cover Goodness, the bank holiday weekend was awash with A-list stars giving birth. To begin with we had the much-anticipated birth of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's baby, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie Pitt. Angelina had a planned caesarean, due to her baby being in the breech position. 'Brad was with Angelina in the operating room the entire time and cut the umbilical cord of his daughter,' Angelina's obstetrician told the press. 'The surgery and birth went flawlessly.'

As is the case with celebrity baby names, sources have been split on the derivation of Shiloh, throwing up 'gift' 'he who is to be sent' and 'peaceful' as potential meanings. It's also apparently the name of a battle in America's civil war. Shiloh was born in Namibia, and Brangelina have since donated $300,000 to improve hospital facilities for future Namibian babies.

Other celebrity births over the past week included singer Gwen Stefani who together with British husband Gavin Rossdale welcomed Kingston James McGregor into the world. 'He's something else,' Gavin told fans. 'All is good. Kingston is good, so's his mum. Life stood still for us today. Now we're really on our way. In Britain, comedian Vic Reeves's partner Nancy Sorrell gave birth to twin daughters, Elizabeth and Nell at the weekend.

Now that the decks have been cleared a whole host of new celebrities are coming forward to announce their pregnancies - it just never ends!
