Scottish Pupils Early Risers
May 30 2006

Primary school trials an earlier start to the school day

dawn A primary school in Aberdeen will this Autumn be the first school to trial an earlier start to the school day. Hundreds of pupils at Aberdeen's Glashieburn Primary School will begin their school day at 08.40, rather than 0900 and will end their day at 15.00.

It's part of an experiment by education officials in Scotland to see if an earlier start to the day helps pupils concentrate more on their studies.

'The children tend to be more tired in the afternoon, so the new hours will make the morning slightly longer and the afternoon shorter,' said a council spokesperson. 'It will help their concentration levels and will also be easier for working parents dropping off children.'
