The Fag End Of The Year December 29 2006 Parents to stop smoking is kids top resolution
Mary Marsh, director of the National Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) – which provides Childline – said ‘Young people who took part in this poll have been clear that they are eager for their voices to be heard.’ Other popular parental resolutions included parents listening more to their offspring, consulting children about decisions which affected them, being given more responsibility, being treated as ‘grown – ups,’ working fewer hours and spending more time with their kids. A few more obviously ‘child-friendly’ resolutions like buying presents, allowing children to stay up later, handing out fewer chores and not shouting also made their way into the top ten resolutions. 'In the day to day stresses of life it can be very difficult for parents to take time out to talk and really listen to their children, but it is vital,’ said Mary Marsh in a statement accompanying the survey’s findings. The top ten of desired parental resolutions are: Stop smoking Allow kids to stay up later Treat children like a grown-up Buy treats/presents Hand out fewer chores Listen more Work fewer hours Give more responsibility Consult about decisions To not shout . . . . . . . . . . . . . |
