Get Me To The Church On Time

Nicky gives birth - then gets married

weding cakeIt may not the most traditional way of doing things but it was certainly one of the most unusual of weddings for bride Nicky Heys when she got married just a few hours after giving birth to baby son Harry. Not that she intended her wedding that way. For Nicky was only six months pregnant!

The night before she was due to marry fiancé Neal Agar, 35-year-old Nicky, a secretary, was enjoying a meal with her husband-to-be when she started experiencing stomach pains. At first Nicky put it down to pre-wedding jitters but the pains persisted and in the middle of the night she decided to go to hospital. She was amazed to be told by doctors that her baby was on its way. Half an hour later Harry was born, weighing just 1lb 12ozs. The baby was immediately placed in an incubator and will need to stay in hospital for at least a month though doctors have assured Nicky and Neal that everything is going to be fine.

At 10am, just seven hours after giving birth and having been given the all-clear by doctors, Nicky discharged herself from hospital, dashed to the hairdressers, picked up her wedding dress, attended her make-up appointment and at 4pm - thirteen hours after the birth - walked down the aisle at St Luke's Church, Brislington, Bristol. The happy couple attended the reception until 10pm before heading back to the hospital to see how baby Harry was getting on.

Not everything went to plan however. They did have to cancel their honeymoon in the Maldives but received full compensation and once Harry is well enough will spend two weeks in Britain instead.
