Baby Left In Baking Car July 27 2006
Grandmother leaves infant in boiling car
A grandmother, who left her one-year-old grandson sweltering in a car while she did the
shopping has been cautioned for neglect. Local police, who were alerted to the child's plight
by shoppers at the Morrisons in Tynemouth called her actions 'sheer stupidity'. 'Thankfully the
boy was not injured, but it could have been far worse,' Inspector Tony Blacklock told The
Mirror. 'Children, particularly very young ones, should never be left alone in cars, but to do so
in the hot spell is sheer stupidity.'
The conditions in the car were estimated to have hit temperatures in the mid 30s. The child
was left alone for half an hour while his grandmother shopped; she was arrested on her
return.
