Parents spend billions on securing state school places

British parents are expected to spend a massive £18 billion making sure their children get a place at their state school of choice. Research from bank ING Direct found that, on average, UK parents are prepared to pay around £15,000 more to have a home in the right catchment area of a good school.

The survey of 533 parents showed that 39% were planning to move in order to ensure that all-important place at a good school. Parents in London were most willing to spend money on the move - up to £25,000.
