Children's Ward Wheelies
October 26 2005
Doctor's unicycling annoys sick kid's mother

unicycle The mother of a six month old baby, who had to wait until a doctor had finished his unicycling practice in the children's ward before he saw to her son, has had her complaint partially upheld by the hospital in question.

When Paula Dadswell took her six month old son to South Tyneside District Hospital, she found herself waiting while a doctor demonstrated his one-wheeled prowess to patients and nurses. After she wrote to the hospital to complain, the 33-year-old mother received a letter promising that any future unicycling would be restricted to 'special occasions'.

The South Tyneside Health Care Trust said; 'All staff have been informed that such activities are to be confined to specific events, eg parties, fund-raising activities etc. As a children's ward, we strive to combine professionalism with an air of informality and fun aimed at putting children at ease. I accept on this occasion that we did not succeed in achieving this compromise.'
