Mini Midwife Gets Award August 26 2005 Eleven year old to receive award for delivering his baby sister
Nathan's mother Donna, 30, was at home in Leeds with her son when she unexpectedly went into labour. She called 999 for an ambulance but gave birth minutes later, before they could arrive. Despite being 'quite scared', Nathan, with the help of the ambulance staff over the phone, helped 5 lb 10 oz Olivia in to the world. Olivia is now back at home after spending a week in hospital. Tracey Fletcher, an operative at West Yorkshire Metropolitan Ambulance Service who are to present him with the award, said: "Most adults in that situation would have panicked, so for an 11 year old to keep cool is pretty amazing." Nathan recalls: "I was quite scared, but I tried to be brave and was so happy when Olivia was finally born." Both parents say they could not be prouder of Nathan
