Heads Want Police In Schools
July 26 2006

Nearly two in three heads are pro-police in schools

schoolWorries over drug taking and the carrying of weapons in schools is sky-high with a new survey showing that almost two out of three headteachers would like to see police stationed in their schools. The survey of 829 headteachers by The Guardian found that 60% would be happy to see police in their schools if it would help with issues of drugs or weapons.

Half of the heads polled said that they had seen a pupil carrying a knife into their school on at least one occasion over the past year. Equally, half had had problems with pupils being drunk or under the influence of drugs whilst on school property. 51% were supportive of measures to introduce random drugs testing in schools.
