Government want kids to cycle to school

cyclingThe government is ready to plough £15m into a campaign to persuade children to cycle to school. Over the next three years, money will be made available to extend the cycling proficiency test to 100,000 pupils, and place more cycle lanes on the public highways close to schools.

Transport Minister Douglas Alexander says this is an initiative aimed at 'the back of the car generation. If we can get [kids] into cycling early with a strong focus on safety, there are real potential benefits. Seemingly small choices like this can have big impacts - for the health of children, on congestion and the environment.'
