Tough On Sex?
May 26 2006

Prime Minister 'bares all'

tony blair Tony Blair has contributed to a Radio One campaign on sex education. The Prime Minister answered a series of questions as part of a survey intended to promote sexual health services but pointedly refused to say whether or not he had ever had any one-night stands.

The 'Bare All' campaign is being run by the BBC, MTV and Durex and expects to publish its findings in August. Mr Blair said there were far more opportunities available to talk about sex than in his schooldays. He told listeners 'When I was at school there wasn't any formal sex education at all. People picked it up in all the ways, from friends, parents and so on, but I think there's a lot more information there now.'

He urged young people to take more responsibility for their sexual behaviour and take advantage of the vast amount of information available. The Government, he declared, couldn't run people's lives for them. 'We can help with the services we provide but the choices people make, whether in their sexual behaviour or otherwise is ultimately up to them,' he said.

But when it came to a survey question about casual affairs, the PM stonewalled just as if he was facing a hostile House of Commons.' I'm afraid I'm really not getting to answering' was all he would say.
