Toddler Survives Inflatable Disaster
July 25 2006

Three-year-old pinned by falling fan

police tapeThe father of the three-year-old girl injured in the inflatable accident in County Durham has been speaking to the press about his family's experience. Lee Wright had to search for 15 minutes in the wreckage of the art installation before he found his daughter Rosie. It transpired that the toddler had been thrown free of the inflatable when it came away from its mooring ropes, but was pinned to the ground by one of the inflatable's fans.

Rosie suffered a punctured lung, two fractures to her spine, bruising to the brain, a fractured ankle, a broken thigh, multiple rib fractures and damage to her liver. Her father, Lee, believes it was the actions of a bystander who saved his daughter. 'When I arrived it was like a scene from a disaster movie,' he told The Sun. 'The car park was full of police cars and paramedics and I couldn’t see my son and daughter anywhere. When I did find them, an anaesthetist was with Rosie. He was telling paramedics what to do and he put a tube down her throat. He probably saved her life.'

Rosie is now in a stable condition in Newcastle General Hospital.
