Keep Kids Away From Rap May 23 2006 Head teacher calls on BBC to ban violent music
'There is, unfortunately, for a small number of children a violent subculture and one of the things that motivates them is some of the lyrics of rap music,' Sir Alan Steer, headmaster of Seven Kings High School in Ilford, East London told The Times. 'The vast majority of kids take it as a provocation and then stop there but unfortunately for one or two it can influence them into further aggression.' Sir Alan believes the BBC shouldn't broadcast such songs, but also expects parents to ban the music at home. 'We can’t be bashful about saying this is unacceptable. You can’t go around making homophobic comments or appalling comments about boys and girls,' he said. 'If you don’t stand up for your morality when bringing up your children, it’s damn sure they will pick up somebody else’s.'
