Allow Teen Drinking
December 22 2005

Welsh inspector calls for teens to drink in pubs

young woman in bar A top Welsh policeman is calling for the law to be changed to allow teenagers to drink alcohol in pubs. Inspector Roly Schwarz believes that allowing teens to drink in a controlled manner in pubs will significantly reduce the problems currently caused by underage drinking on the street.

'Young people are going to drink alcohol, but they must be shown how to enjoy it,' said the inspector, whose police force recently conducted a survey of 2000 teens and found that 88% of girls and 79% of boys aged 16 have been drunk.

Under Inspector Schwarz's plans, teenagers aged between 16 and 18 would be allowed to drink in pubs, but not elsewhere.
