Baby Makes 'Remarkable Progress'
August 22 2005
Doctors admit Charlotte getting better

sleeping baby Doctors have admitted that the condition of Charlotte Wyatt is improving. Last year the baby was the subject of a High Court hearing when the judge gave doctors permission not to resuscitate the seriously ill infant the next time she stops breathing. The decision was taken, despite her parents wishes that doctors should do everything to keep her alive.

She has made what they describe as 'remarkable progress' since the controversial High Court ruling. This new evidence has prompted her parents Debbie and Darren to go to the Court of Appeal on Thursday, to try and overturn the original ruling, and ensure their daughter would be resuscitated if she stops breathing.

At last October's hearing medical experts argued that it was highly unlikely she would survive the winter and putting her on a ventilator would be 'intolerable' to her. Mrs Wyatt, 24, from Portsmouth, said: "[They] said they would not resuscitate her because of her quality of life. But .Charlotte can go outside for 40 minutes in the hospital grounds with an oxygen mask. She can see and hear, and she knows who Darren and I are."
