September 21 2006

Bindi Irwin's moving tribute to her father

bindi and steve irwin - www.crocodilehunter.com.auThe eight year old daughter of Steve Irwin brought a crowd of 5000 mourners to their feet when she gave a moving tribute to her father. Bindi Irwin delivered her eulogy with astonishing composure and confidence at the ceremony at Australia Zoo, watched by her mother and younger brother Bob.

Tracing the words of her speech with her finger, the eight-year-old read; ' My daddy was my hero — he was always there for me when I needed him.

Steve Irwin's eight-year-old daughter received a standing ovation after delivering a brave eulogy to her father Steve at Australia Zoo in Beerwah today.

Watched by her mother Terri, brother Bob, and about 5000 mourners at the Crocoseum, she spoke with clarity and assurance, holding her own among a roll-call of actors and stars paying tribute to the Crocodile Hunter.

Smiling and reading her own tribute from a sheet of paper in front of an image of her dad, she said: "My daddy was my hero — he was always there for me when I needed him. He listened to me and taught me so many things but most of all he was fun".

On her father's wildlife career, Bindi said; "I know that Daddy had an important job. He was working to change the world so everyone would love wildlife like he did. I don't want Daddy's passion to ever end," she said. "I want to help endangered wildlife just like he did.' she said. 'When I see a crocodile I will always think of him and I know that Daddy made this zoo so everyone could come and learn to love all the animals.

'I have the best Daddy in the whole world and I will miss him every day.'
