Cycle Helmets 'Uncool' July 21 2005
Fashion and peer pressure leave children vulnerable on bikes
Two out of three children are refusing to wear cycle helmets because they think they make them look 'uncool'. In a survey of 8000 primary school children, most said it was peer pressure that made them avoid wearing the proper equipment when cycling - although a few also said helmets were uncomfortable or too expensive to buy. The survey's findings are even more worrying when you know that more than 4000 children are injured every year whilst out on their bikes.
