Teen Readers Targeted By Advertisers June 21 2006 Product placement creeps into children's literature
Cathy's Book, a new book out for teenage girls, includes product placement for the make-up company Cover Girl. The storyline includes tips for using the makeup. In return Cover Girl agreed to feature the book on its website. Esther Rantzen, president of Childline, told The Times today: 'I always get uneasy when the line between editorial and advertising gets blurred.' But the book's publisher remains unabashed saying they found the criticism 'disappointing'.
