Seven Year Old Anorexics
September 20 2006

Primary schoolkids being treated for eating disorders

boyChildren as young as seven are being treated for eating disorders at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Primary schoolgirls are no longer exempt from body issues, and a consultant for the hospital laid a lot of the blame on skinny models and celebrities.

Dr John Godin, a senior consultant at Great Ormond Street said; 'The images young girls see in magazines, on catwalks and in the media are having an impact. Our patients talk about it. You see them looking at magazines. The problems are starting at a younger and younger age.'

The row over model sizes follows a statement by the Spanish Fashion Week organizers that no model with a Body Mass Index of less than 18 would appear on the catwalk. Here in London, fashion organizers said they would address the issue after this week's shows.
