Suri Is The Hardest Word
April 20 2006

Tom and Katie's baby name slip-up

baby nose Poor old Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: not a day has gone by since the birth of their daughter and pundits are already ridiculing them for their choice of name. The initial reaction to the choice of Suri for the couple's baby daughter seemed to be positive, but it now appears the couple would have done better to research the name a little more closely.

Yesterday we heard that Suri was the Hebrew name for Princess and could also mean red rose. Today the Sun is reporting that it's actually a Hindu word, and a boy's name at that which means Lord Krishna. Even worse, in some Indian dialects it can mean 'pointy nose' and in Japanese it also means pickpocket!

Perhaps Tom and Katie should have checked out Raisingkids.co.uk's Baby Naming feature here before they plumped for Suri!
