Big Brother Birth
October 19 2005
Dutch contestant gives birth on show

big brother logoThe first Big Brother birth took place yesterday, under the glare of the cameras. The Dutch Big Brother, which was where the reality show began, had its first baby when contestant Tania gave birth to a girl in full view of the watching nation.

Filming of the birth took place under guidelines insisted on by the Dutch Social Affairs Ministry. ‘It will not show any explicit scenes," said Stephanie Dekker, spokeswoman of the Talpa network, pointing out that medical shows have already shown women giving birth in much greater detail.

The show’s producers are insisting that the baby will still enjoy a degree of privacy – with baby Joscelyn on air for no more than eight hours over the duration of the show which has a further nine weeks to run. The child will mainly stay in a room where cameras are not allowed, where her mother and grandparents can be with her in private.
