Sphinx Rises From Brighton Beach July 18 2005 Sand sculpture festival amazes the crowds
Visitors to Brighton Beach this weekend were taken aback to find pyramids and sphinxes looming out of the sand in place of the usual donkey rides and candyfloss stands. These impressive structures were part of a massive sand sculpture festival which opened this weekend at the beach resort and runs all Summer. More than 10,000 tonnes of sand were used to carve stunning giant Egyptian-style formations on the beach featuring pyramids, dragons, sphinxes, temple ruins and the tomb of Tutankhamen. Some stand more than 45ft tall - an impressive feat to inspire any parent planning on taking the kids to the beach this summer!
