British teens are mountain's youngest conquerors

everest Two nineteen year old Brits have just become the youngest ever Britons to climb the formidable Mount Everest. Rob Gauntlett and James Hooper were both 18 when they left home to climb the mountain – celebrating their 18th birthdays at Base Camp in Nepal.

The duo called their parents from the summit with a satellite phone. Rob told his mum and dad; 'James and I are really keen on getting the message out to young people to follow your dreams. This has been our dream for three years. Get out there, follow it up and make sure you make it happens.'

The boys' parents are delighted with their sons' success, and are anxious to be able to congratulate them in person. ' We are very excited and proud of how hard they have worked, and of the message of their climb, but there is no Champagne until they are back down safely.'
