Keeping Up With The Zeta-Joneses
October 14 2005

Film star to front NSPCC campaign

nspcc picture Hollywood star Catherine Zeta-Jones will lead a National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in her native Wales, the charity has announced. The actress, whose latest film 'The Legend of Zorro,' has just gone on general release, will be an ambassador for the NSPCC\s 'FULL STOP' campaign which has had just one solitary aim since its establishment in 1999 - to end cruelty to children.

Stanley Thomas OBE, chairman of the FULL STOP Appeal in Wales, said 'With Catherine's help we can go forward to achieving our goal of creating a society where all children are loved, valued and able to fulfil their potential.'

Commenting on her appointment, Zeta-Jones said her own Welsh childhood had been a happy one but she knew 'that not all children are so lucky and I therefore want to do all I can, especially as a parent myself, to help keep them free from harm. Wales is still my home and I am delighted to be part of the NSPCC's very important work across the country'

NSPCC Wales runs 17 different services provided at an annual cost of around £3.5M. It's 'FULL STOP team in Wales is run by volunteers.

Zeta-Jones is the latest addition to the charity's growing list of celebrity backers who also include such luminaries as Kylie Minogue and Jonny Wilkinson.

NSPCC chief executive Mary Marsh welcomed the appointment, claiming 'The news of Catherine's support is tremendous.'
