Grannies In The Hood July 14 2005 Kent pensioners beat teens at their own game
The nationwide battle against the teenager's favourite item of clothing, the hoodie, may be in its closing stages if one Kent grandmother has anything to do with it. Mari Savage from Margate in Kent is encouraging all the pensioners she knows to beat teens at their own game, and adopt the hoodie and baseball cap uniform as their own. Speaking to The Telegraph she explained her battle plan; 'If we wear these things, they won't want to wear them, will they? Once older people like us get hold of them, they lose all their street cred.' Mrs Savage has already found some resistance to her approach, 'This lot of youngsters in the street came through and they elbowed me in the arm,' she said. 'I thought, "they're jealous. They don't want me to be wearing this. They just want these clothes for themselves".' Happily Mari, who has six grandchildren, is standing firm and has found certain advantages to her new wardrobe. 'Actually, I really like hoodies,' she told the paper, 'because they are nice and warm on cold days.'
