Boy Retrieves Nose From Dog
December 13 2005
11-year-old gets nose back from animal's stomach

dog in muzzle Look away now if stories involving blood and guts make you queasy! A boy of 11, has had his nose successfully sewn back on after getting it back from the stomach of the dog who bit it off.

The astounding surgery was carried out in the Czech Republic, and was the first of its kind. The child had been attacked by an alsation in his village. But the retrieval of his nose was down to quick-thinking surgeons at the hospital who called the vet who was putting the dog down and told him to open the dog's stomach up. The nose was found in once piece, sterilised and after more than 11 hours in the operating theatre, the boy had his nose and sense of smell restored.
