Star pleads innocence over bad mother slurs

Poor old Britney Spears. It doesn't seem to matter how much she protests her mothering abilities - she always seems to put her foot in it.

In a classic example, the singer gave an interview this week, aiming to set the record straight about capering around the country with no regard for car safety laws. Apparently it's all because she's a 'country' gal.

'I did it with my dad. I'd sit on his lap and I'd drive. We're country,' Britney told a TV interviewer, bemoaning the media's attention to her and her children; 'I can't go anywhere without anyone judging me....I know I'm a good mum.'
