Olympic athlete Denise Lewis is pregnant – and delighted!

running track When it comes to sports, Olympic gold-winner Denise Lewis left nothing to chance in training to become one of the world's best athletes. But motherhood is an area which the sportwoman has left mostly to chance.

Denise, who is now pregnant with her second child, tells The Mirror this week that both pregnancies were unplanned. 'Finding out I was pregnant was a bit of a shock and it wasn't planned,' she says, 'but then neither was Lauryn (her three year old daughter). 'My life is so hectic that I guess I'd never get around to having children if I didn't get little surprises like this. "Now it's sunk in I'm over the moon. The baby's due in the summer. it's all very exciting!' Denise isn't the only one who's delighted about the pregnancy - her daughter Lauren is equally thrilled. 'She knows a brother or sister is on the way,' Denise tells the paper. 'I told her I have a baby in my tummy but she just thought it was funny. Now she keeps telling people she's having one too and lifts up her top and sticks her belly out. All she knows is that if it's a sister, she can brush her hair.'

As for the birth itself, the athlete is hoping that second time around, things will go more smoothly for her. 'Lauryn's birth wasn't brilliant. I had an epidural and a special procedure to help her out. I'm hoping to go natural this time with a water birth. I'd love a little boy, then I'd have one of each.'
