Mum tells cops on 12-year-old son

A boy of 12 was taken down to the police station and questioned, when his mum told them he'd opened his Christmas present without permission.

The mother, from South Carolina, had wrapped up the Nintendo Game Boy Advance and put it under her son's grandmother's tree. But when the grandmother came down one morning to find the gift unwrapped, a chain of events were set in motion that ended up with the boy being charged with petty theft.

'I’m trying to get him some kind of help,' his mother told reporters, adding that her son had been in trouble before. 'He took it without permission. He wanted it, he took it,' was the gran's take on the situation.
