Writer Swears He Did No Wrong
October 7 2005

Children's author's 'swear' words upset teachers.

gp taylor A children's author upset teachers in a Cornish school when he used 'rude'words in front of a class of 8-9-year-olds. GP Taylor, the writer of popular children's stories like 'Shadowmancer'and 'Tersias' gave a forty-minute talk to 120 pupils at Penair School in Truro, dropping in words like 'fart,'bum'and 'bogey'into the conversation.

The children reportedly got 'excitable'at the colourful turns of phrase while some of the teachers were said to be so 'uncomfortable' and 'embarrassed' by the discussion that they went to fetch a senior member of staff who cut short the talk.

The school later said the talk was 'inappropraite for teenagers' let alone under-tens. The writer - who used to be a Vicar - compared his material with that of 'Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow.' It was, said the author, 'sad' if the words he used were unacceptable.
