Mum Faces Up To Cornish Gator
October 6 2005

Trip to feed the ducks ends with close encounter

alligator A mother's trip to feed the ducks with her nine-month-old daughter ended in terror in Cornwall this week when she spotted a crocodile in her local duck pond.

Mum Stacey Clayton, 20, had taken her baby daughter down to see the ducks being fed when she noticed what appeared to be a log floating in the pond. Or at least that's what she thought, until the 'log' blinked at her!

Terrified, she threw a stone at the crocodile and rushed home with her daughter to call the RSPCA. A local spokesperson said that they believe what Stacey saw was a caiman - a relative of the alligator - and warned villagers to be on the lookout.
